From an early age, Gary knew that if he wanted to make an impact, he had to rattle some cages, take risks, be courageous and go for the bold.
Having earned a reputation as an affable and versatile collaborator, Gary is driven by a relentless quest to seek the new, inspiring and innovative ways to support, engage, empower and profile the successes international students. Over the years, he has accomplished great success in integrating arts, fashion, dance and volunteering into this work.
Gary likes to apply innovative ways to address traditional challenges and wants to redefine the sector with 'sexy' initiatives. This led to the implementation of many partnership projects such as Asia Pop Fest x Lord Mayor's Student Welcome, LMSW Runway Shows, EDGE International Student Leaders' Program and the Melbourne International Student Conference.
Gary has extensive international education experience in the areas of high level strategic planning and design; policy development and advice; and the design and delivery of complex projects including festivals and arts programming, student well being programs, community grants and youth engagement.
In January 2016, he was recognised as the Australia Day Council 'New Australian of the Year' and in 2018, he was the recipient of the prestigious IEAA 'Distinguished Contribution to International Education' award.
Gary is a fan of books (hardcopy he says, particularly biographies), food and volunteering with equal enthusiasm, and when he is not busy at events, you will find him at the beach, climbing rocks or in the bush.
