No Interest Loans

NILs (no interest loans) offer international students access to safe, fair, and affordable credit without any interest, fees, or additional charges.

What can I use NILs for?

Borrow up to $2000 for essential goods and services including:

  • Household items like appliances, whitegoods & furniture

  • Car repairs & registration

  • Medical, dental, wellbeing and life event expenses

  • Technology like a phone or laptop

  • Education expenses like fees or uniforms

  • Employment expenses like licenses or equipment

How does NILs work?

The No Interest Loans (NILs) program is a financial assistance program that provides loans of up to $2,000 to people who are experiencing financial hardship. The loans are interest-free and there are no hidden fees.

Our No Interest Loans program is made possible thanks to our partners, South East Community Links (SECL) and Good Shepherd.

Am I eligible?

  • You hold a temporary visa or student visa

  • You earn less than $70,000 annual income (before tax) as a single person or $100,000 annual income (before tax) if you have a partner or children

  • You can show you can afford to repay the loan

How can I apply?

To apply for the NILs program, you will need to:

  1. Submit an inquiry form. This form will ask for your contact details and financial situation. The information you provide will be kept confidential.

  2. A loan officer from SECL will contact you within 24-28 hours to discuss your application further.

  3. If your application is approved, you will be able to submit an invoice for the essential goods or services you need. NILs will pay the cost of these items directly to the supplier. Loans cannot be used for cash, bills, or debts.
